When away from work, Dr. Hoxworth and his wife, Heather (a former police officer herself), enjoy sharing the majestic beauty of our nation with their two children as the family travels the country in their motorhome. The couple are avid recreational shooters and place a high emphasis on preparedness of their family’s personal safety plan.
Before his current assignment as an emergency room trauma surgeon for a major metropolitan hospital, Dr. Stinger served our great nation as a combat veteran in the deserts of Northern Iraq. Serving as battalion physician for the elite 2nd Ranger Battalion, he commanded the 250th Forward Surgical Team (FST) and led the first combat-zone insertion of an FST unit since World War II. Colonel Stinger, along with eight others under his command, parachuted from C-17 aircraft and quickly set up their surgical equipment and tents. The team’s mission was to create a much more rapid means by which soldiers and civilians could be treated following combat-related injuries. Unlike a traditional MASH unit, this team’s mobility and proximity to the fighting aided in reducing the time casualties would have to wait for critical care. After retirement, Colonel Stinger voluntarily served on a regional SWAT team as a combat medic. He continues serving local police agencies in the DFW area with emergency wound care training and presentations. For recreation, Dr. Stinger enjoys competing in scenario-based shooting competitions, touring the Southwestern United States on his motorcycle, and spending time with his lovely wife, Lindsey, and their four children.
